Chrome Text Effect

For this tip you will need Extensis Photo Tools.

  1. Open a new file using the dimensions you wish. I used 400 x 100 at 72 resolution in RGB mode.

  2. Decide which color you wish to start with.

  3. Pick the text tool and type your word. I chose the word chrome at 75 points using the Rockwell Extra Bold for my font.

  4. Select the text.

  5. Add a new layer.

  6. Expand the seletion by 2 pixels by clicking «select» «modify» «expand».

  7. Feather the selection by 2 pixels by clicking «select» «feather» or by using the keyboard shortcut (shift+control+D).

  8. Fill the selection with your color.

  9. Deselect your text.

  10. Then click on «filter» «stylize» «find edges».

  11. Add a flat inner bevel. «filter» «extensis» «photobevel».

  12. Click «filter» «stylize» «find edges».

  13. Add a new layer.

  14. Open the image file you want to be reflected in your chrome.

  15. Copy and paste on your new layer.

  16. Select your text. (be sure to stay on the new layer)

  17. Copy.

  18. Delete the layer, and add a new one.

  19. Click «edit» «paste».

  20. Using the marquee tool cut 1/2 off the top of the new layer.

  21. Using the layer manager, move the layer's opacity bar to 35%.

  22. You're done.
